10 Gifts Ideas for a Physical Therapy Student

I’ve had quite a few people ask me for gift suggestions to get their PT friends for their white coat ceremony, which gave me the idea to add this topic to my blog.  I figured now would be the perfect time to write this post since Christmas is 3 weeks away (where did the time go???).  Below I’ve listed 10 gift ideas you can purchase for your favorite PT student!

1.Physical Therapy Quick Study Pamphlet

The one I have is a 6-page laminated pamphlet that includes dermatomes, myotomes, DTRs, popular special tests, neuro exams, and so much more!  This especially came in handy during my clinical rotations when I quickly needed a reminder of something.  I got mine on Amazon for $6.60. They also have quick study guides specifically for joints & ligaments, the skeletal system, the muscular system, the nervous system, and muscular origin & insertions.

2. PT Wine Glass

My sister got me this for Christmas last year and it was probably my favorite gift.  Much needed! Click here for a jumbo version of this wine glass.

3. A bottle of wine (or 3)

I mean you need wine to go along with the PT wine glass, duh!  Don’t know what type of wine to get? My personal favorite wine is Jam Jar and I’ve been trying to put everyone on. Sooo yummy.  Even Pharrell approves!

4. Pulse Oximeter

I bought myself one of these bad boys after my skilled nursing facility clinical because they were always hard to come by.  They will be used extensively in the SNF and acute care settings to ensure their patients’ oxygen sats and heart rates are stable.  You can find them on Amazon in different colors too!

5. Magnetic Whiteboard

My whiteboard came in handy when I was studying – more specifically when I was learning the brachial plexus.  Whew, I don’t miss those days!

6. Anatomy Coloring Book

Anatomy is arguably the hardest and most stressful course throughout all of Physical Therapy school.  This gift is perfect for visual learners as it includes muscle insertions, origins, nerve innervations, and much more!

7. PT Tumbler

I was never a coffee drinker until I started PT school…

8. Starbucks Gift Card

Starbucks easily became one of my favorite study spots when I needed a change of scenery from the library.

9. Massage Gift Card

Honestly, I think any grad student would appreciate a massage.  As physical therapists, we are constantly on our feet lifting, standing, walking and performing a plethora of interventions.  Our bodies get tired too and need a relaxing massage once and a while!

10. Retractable PT Badge Reel

These are useful during clinical rotations.  I use my badge a million times daily in my current acute care clinical to swipe into different doors and stairwells.  I don’t have one of these and it’s annoying to have to unclip and clip my badge back every single time. #FirstWorldProblems. They have a lot of cute retractable badge reels on AmazonEtsy.
