My PT Journey
Skin Care Routine
After eating at the restaurant from my post with the big ass fish, we returned to our Lisbon airbnb and shared how much we enjoyed it with our host. The warm hospitality and delicious food left us fully (pun intended) satisfied. She immediately started laughing.. hard. She told us the restaurant was located in “the ghetto”. We just stood and stared at her confused, because nothing seemed “ghetto” about that restaurant to us. She saw our confused looks and offered a further explanation stating “there are a lot of black people that live there.” I continued to stare in shock. I mean, did she not realize we’re black too?! I’m not going to lie, it stung. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A couple of days later, after my emotions died down, I felt the need to speak up. I educated her about how using the word “ghetto” to describe a neighborhood with the majority of black people can be offensive to people of color. How ghetto does not equate to black. I told her in the United States, it is a term looked down upon that describes poor and inferior status. To my surprise, she listened. She apologized. And she thanked me for sharing this with her. I truly feel like the world would be a better place if we all just listened to each other.
One of the most well known Portuguese foods is Piri Piri chicken which has roots from both Portugal & Mozambique . Frangasqueira Nacional def had the most flavorful Piri Piri chicken we tasted in Lisbon. The best part was that it was cheap too! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ FYI this hole in the wall spot only has two tables inside so don’t come planning to dine in unless you get there as soon as it opens!
we don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day anymore, but I just wanted an excuse to post a selfie of us. U da best baby. thanks for spoiling me rotten errryday @julian.dpt 👸🏽😈😘 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Happy Valentines Day y’all! ♥️♥️♥️
Julian & I finally moved into our own place which is why I got lazy with posting, but here I am, back with my regularly scheduled food photos 🙂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We were actually on the way to a touristy restaurant in Lisbon when our Uber driver suggested his favorite local spot and we immediately asked him to take us there instead. Pictured here is a big ass plate of delicious bacalhau (salted codfish), one of Portugal’s most popular food items. Another bonus was they had fantastic, cheap wine 😋
a lil ray of sunshine (on an already sunny day lol) 🌞 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #lisbonportugal #myarchives #may2018
The whole point of visiting Lisbon. Pastéis de nata. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ my favorite restaurants to munch on these delicious creamy egg tarts were: ↠ Manteigaria (@manteigaria.oficial) ↠ Pastéis de Belém ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve been craving these every day since I went to Lisbon last May 😭 #help
Of course we had to be basic tourists and stop by the first Starbucks ever which is conveniently located in Pike Place ☕️ Tbh, I actually enjoy having a day to get the touristy activities out of my system before seeking out the locals spots. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Btw, I will be back in Seattle in a few months for a work trip, and would LOVE if you all would kindly leave any suggestions of places to eat or things to do there in the comments! 🤗 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ P.S. for anyone wondering, this was taken in July which is why I don’t have a coat on 😅
